ALCHEMY

Many of you, (like me), either knowingly, or unknowingly, carry baggage about our own history, which often holds us back from truly living a life of plenitude and beauty.

For many of us, we feel so disconnected, so fragmented from past customs and from a lineage of earth connection. The whole world has been put through a colonial story... and lost heritage, lost connection to land, and a prevailing homesickness has been the dominant narrative for a long time.

You also might have noticed that over the past two generations especially, many people have been leaving their church communities, and disconnecting from this aspect of their spiritual lineage, in droves... by the tens of millions.

There is nothing wrong with leaving. (In fact, most are leaving for deeply heartfelt reasons.)

There is also nothing wrong with staying.

There is also nothing wrong with exploring the East, North, South.

And ... sometimes... there is great benefit to ourselves and the world, when we revisit the baby we threw out with the bathwater, and discover a whole new frequency.

Hi, my name is Alana, and I'm a songwriter on the Bardic path... and a depth huntress, always looking for ways to bring the beauty we intuit, earthside. And by virtue of all this.. I have discovered that the 25 years of professional songwriting converged with my training in nondual consciousness, has over time, transformed me into an alchemist.

I've composed a folk opera called CIANALAS/TÃSKNOTA.

Cianalas is the Scottish Gaelic word for homesick or longing. And Tãsknota is the Kashubian word for homesick.

We are in a time that needs to address disregarded aspects of our own histories.

Music can traverse into the territory of bone memory… and touch the ache…

Because this isn’t just a ‘mindset’ thing… it is in our body heritage, and how we got here.

It is in what we’ve long forgotten (and what we’ve too long remembered). Exile energy got us into this… it will not get us out.

Our job now, is to alchemize the strife, put the wisdom in our cloaks, and thread the eye of the needle.

This longing is our home… aligning with that, is everything.

When leaving (or losing) our heritage is done in such a way where stones have been left unturned, and the symbols of that lineage have not been integrated, then collectively, we could be co-creating a very vast, and frankly dangerous mutant, out in the shadows, without even realizing it.

You may be feeling one of two things...

🌀 For some of us, it has felt resonant to revisit our Western past, but in doing so, many choose to completely ignore, and bypass, upwards of 1700-2000 years of Christian ancestors, in order to get to the acceptable pre-Christian ones. Sometimes along this bypass, we glance at these ancestors with the postmodern assumption that every single one of them was brainwashed, or coerced, or tyrannical, and that none of them led deeply inspirited, courageous, sometimes even shamanic, integral, mystical, lives.

This is a patronizing disservice.

To them. And to you.

And recognizing this is a key to your integration.

And, it is a key to truly unlocking the full, whole, mystery in your body's history.

There is still a violent undertone in some Christian spaces, toward magic expressions, and toward other traditions. And there is still a violent undertone in some Pagan spaces, toward Christianity. If you have European heritage, or have a heritage that was influenced or colonized by Christendom, there is specific inner work to do, to incorporate all of your ancestors, because some of them carry the ancient pre-Christian ways, and some of them found a third force, and carried both the old and the new epoch, and some of them were solely Christian. And let's face it... some of them bring us shame.

Depending on the story, this can be painful stuff. But also, depending on the story... this process can be really interesting. The customs. The stories. The colours. The flowers. The rhythms.

To do this work so it isn't passed on unreconciled, still mutating in the shadows... we don't need puritanism, what we need is ALCHEMY... an alchemy that is rooted in deeply expansive love.

If we are to collectively transform/metabolize this story, if we are to do this work for ourselves, and as a consideration for other cultures wounded by our own, it must be touched. We must learn to mix salves and potions with people around us who care, it must be stirred... and transformed... acknowledged... nuanced... even forgiven (but not at the level of codependency). So when you unleash your spirit, and move your body, and shift your energy, you don’t have to have it always in the back of your mind... that if you shake too much, or dance too much, what you have caged inside will be unleashed. Because you've done the work of melting even the cage into a golden shovel to dig up all kinds of rich, mysterious, goodness for your life, even in your own backyard.
